Home > sustainability
Sustainability is a core value here at Elk Home, representing the very reason we formed the brand itself.
We’re reducing the carbon footprint within the manufacturing processes, and strive to reduce our impact on the environment by working closely with our European partner to ensure a constant effort to reduce waste and increase recycling.
100% of the manufacturing process and assembly is done on one site, reducing the carbon footprint of transportation usage in our processes.
Waste material produced from our factory is turned into briquettes on site, helping to fuel the biomass heating system which in turn heats the factory.
Our factory also has rainwater harvesting, further improving the sustainability of the site.
We don’t waste fabric cutoffs either, instead using them to create other products for third party products, ensuring our waste becomes their starting point.
Our timber sourcing team ensure every piece of timber and every board is FSC certified, allowing us to confidently use wood knowing it’s responsibly sourced and doesn’t have a deforestation effect on our planet.
As we move forward, a key focus for Elk Home will be to further develop the range and components used, by promoting and increasing the use of recycled or sustainably sourced elements. Such as those created from waste, by products of existing production processes or following sustainable projects such as The Better Cotton Initiative.
We even offer Eco Friendly Fabrics as part of our product range.
Two core house fabrics have been specially selected due to their sustainability, Eco-Velvet is a 100% recycled pile velvet. Knitted from yarns extruded from post-consumer PET bottles, Eco-Velvet repurposes thousands of plastic bottles bound for our oceans or a life in landfill.
Oxford is a 100% recycled cotton, woven from pre-consumer waste saved from landfill.
